Name twelve women from Bremen, Bremerhaven and the Lower Saxon surroundings who lived, had an impact and carved out a place for themselves in the collective memory over the course of the past hundred years.

Not such an easy task? To remedy that circumstance, in 2011 – the year in which the 100th International Women’s Day was celebrated worldwide – we staged an exhibition in the Lower Town Hall of Bremen (and subsequently in venues in Bremerhaven and Lower Saxony) featuring twelve women from our region.

Twelve women who exerted an important influence in their respective field or area – whether art, sports, scholarship, politics, business, society or family.

We received about a hundred suggestions for our exhibition. Many thanks to all who helped us in this endeavour by compiling and sending us material.

The women from Bremen, Bremerhaven and Lower Saxony shown on the left were selected for the main exhibition.

As a way of honouring the many interesting suggestions we received, we have decided to present a further twelve women in a somewhat less elaborate supplementary exhibition - also shown on the left.

We would be delighted to have you as a sponsor for our project. For information about various forms of support, see the right-hand margin.

Thank you for your interest!
