Background

The Bremer Frauen Branchen Buch (BFBB; Bremen women’s “yellow pages”) appeared this year (2010) for the twentieth time, making it the oldest and longest-lived of its kind. On the occasion of this special anniversary and as a way of paying regional tribute to the 100th International Women’s Day to be celebrated all over the world in 2011, we are planning the multimedia exhibition

Women Emerging: A Century of Economic and Cultural History in Bremen.

Already ten years ago – during the Expo 2000 – the BFBB staged the exhibition “Strong. Daring. Inventive. A Millennium of Women Entrepreneurs in Bremen”, thus shedding light on the little-known history of women entrepreneurs in Bremen and the surrounding area, and impressively documenting professional practice and self-employment among women over a period of one thousand years.

With some ten thousand visitors and further presentations following its premier in the Lower Town Hall in Bremen, e.g. at the DIHT in Berlin, it was a very successful exhibition. Now we would like to pick up where we left off at that time.
